Record: 5-3
Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets
This was an interesting period. We were treading a very fine line between 4th spot and dropping from playoff contention. For the most part we hung in as the 4 seed but you could feel the pressure building, without KD, around where we were going to finish given there was about a 3 game difference between 4 and 12. We finished nicely in the second half of our Orlando game. The first half our bench mob hurt the team going -7 in our minutes and allowing Orlando to make a push, but second half we pulled it together in our short stint and went +10. Monty came to me as we walked back to the locker room and said something along the lines of, “that’s how you’re meant to play as a bench unit. Keep it rolling.” We had some great production out of Cam Payne who stepped up off the bench in a big way for us. We then went on a frustration 3 game slide. Against OKC, LAL and SAC which saw me have one of my best performances of the year against Sacramento. Got off to a great start in SAC finding some success against their drop coverage and switches with Book and CP being such focal points of their attention. But unfortunately after a hot start we couldn’t pull through with a slow 3rd quarter. We were without DA and KD for both these games but the boys hung tough and then had a 4 game run of wins against Philly, Utah, a undermanned Denver and Minnesota. Bizzy held down that starting spot with DA out and did a phenomenal job helping the team win a lot of these games. Felt like the fellas were really starting to find some form with Playoffs approaching, KD returning and the race for 4th spot heating up.
